Please stop complaining about the safety of Watkins Glen. You're the only series that runs that layout and the only wrecks that happen like that in that area like that.
Also don't ask for concrete barriers instead of Armco. I'd rather hit Armco that dissipates energy rather than a concrete barrier that doesn't. If you want to see people get hurt go ahead and hit concrete at that speed. Just be lucky that you and everyone else got out uninjured. Also look at Daytona and Talladega where you have 25 car crashes that have given people concussions. Think about that the next time you bitch about the track and it's safety. Also stay on the track.
/rant.
Have Marcos Ambrose for your time.

Instead of listening to reason they're just gonna stop running there, and that'll be a real shame.

LOL. "the only series that runs there." You don't even have a clue do you?

As much as I hated dealing with crowd last weekend I had a great time. I wouldn't do it again because you don't feel as close to the sport as you do at Sports cars and Vintage races. It'll be a shame for the track and the sport. I'll just stick to my sports cars and SVRA races and continue to point out the faults in the NASCAR driving style at Watkins Glen.

I meant that lay out. I go to the track two to three times a year and have for most of my life so yeah I have a clue.

What you meant and what you said are two different things. Your rant starts by suggesting nobody else uses the track.

I edited it. I probably should have checked to make sure it was correct.

Until this year Grand-Am ran the Cup layout. I could swear some of the support series use it as well.

They stopped last year. NASCAR weekend is the only weekend that uses the short course that I'm aware of. IMSA runs full course, SCCA runs the full course, SVRA runs the full course. I'm pretty sure the club events run the full course. Ferrari challenge will.
I don't think that there was ever an accident like this at that area when Grand-Am ran the short course race.

Vintage races and F1 are probably the best races to go to.
MMMMMM VINTAGE F1 RACES

Oh yeah, SVRA and IMSA at the Glen, best weekends of the year.

Amongst the minority, I enjoy NASCAR racing. I like most of the venues. Drivers quite often bitch about the road courses, just like they do about restrictor plate tracks. Newman isn't a road course stud, so of course he'll complain about the track when he gets wadded up. Just like any driver will complain about Daytona/Talledega when they get caught up in one of the Big Ones.
I don't think NASCAR will abandon the track. The racing on the road courses has been entertaining lately.

I enjoy it too, it just pisses me off that you blame the track when you caused the crash and NOBODY WAS HURT. Also if they'd stop running on the run offs and stayed on the track, they'd be just fine through there.

Those are my two Glen weekends as well. With SVRA less than a month out the excitement is building. There's just too much crowd policing with NASCAR, I love being able to wander the paddock freely at IMSA races and interact with these large teams.

The drivers need to respect the boundaries of the track and NASCAR has to enforce them, i.e. not running on the runoff areas or playing bumper cars if you aren't good enough to pass on a tough track

Exactly. I love going in the garages there. I think that's actually what I think got me into cars was going in the garages at the Vintage Cup.
This was the first NASCAR weekend I went to. I knew there was no garage access but I was upset I couldn't go on pit terrace at all on Friday. It also bugged me that I couldn't watch the Zippo 200 from the main straight stands on Saturday because they made it reserved.

Exactly, I was making comments in the grandstand all afternoon after it happened. I was pissed that he was calling the track unsafe when it was HIS stupid unsafe driving style that caused that. I wish people like Boris Said and Ron Fellows would be able to get good rides again and show how real road racing is done. Just look at Ambrose and Allmendingers battles yesterday, THAT was real road racing, there's a reason why I always root for those two at Sonoma and The Glen,

This year will be my first(of likely many) SVRA races, are the garages and paddocks set up like the IMSA weekends with large team pavilions and elaborate race trailers? or are they more like smaller "A man, a truck, and his tools" track day setups?
I couldn't stand reserved seating, the ability to wander freely over the 6 hours and see every turn was one of the best parts of the 6 Hours of the Glen for me.

You've got it, the guys who know what they're doing, even when they do make contact know how much is appropriate and you never see them in any of these incidents

Just look how they raced in the esses, they leaned on each other almost like it was a sportscar race and got out of it before they caused a huge wreck in the inner loop.

It depends. It's not as elaborate as IMSA but some have tents and some are just out of feather lites with an old MG and some tools. I think you'll have a great time at the event. You can go all over the paddock, except hot pits, like at IMSA. Also check out the turn 10 car show that's neat.
Here's some pictures
This guy has like 5 cars.
And a simpler set up.

Very cool, thank you for the response and pictures. Glad to see that the car show is on the track, I couldn't find the location on the Glen website and assumed it must have been over in town. Forget a garage full of luxury, this is what I'd be doing if I struck it rich.

They have some during the festival on Friday but the one at the track is in the Turn 10 Village behind the Jackie Stewart Grandstands (Turn 10, duh)
